Origin: Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

Interestingly, it is commonly called Singapore Daisy though it is not native here but an import from tropical America. Although being used often as groundcover in landscaping here, this creeper is a Class 3 pest plant in Queensland, Australia. In addition, it is one of the top 100 worst invasive alien species worldwide according to the Global Invasive Species Database. It has naturalized in many countries in this region including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and China. In herbal medicine, it goes by the mysterious name Mary Goules in some herbal text. Its potential uses in traditional medicines was summarized in a 2014 article by a group of Thai authors while its essential oil composition from plant harvested in India was published in the same year.
